Rear with connection view and Rs232 portFront

  • UPS Fault – Does not power UP.
  • UPS Model – Fenton P600E
  • Type – 600Va / 3 Amp / 320 Watts

On first inspection the UPS looked dead totally and connecting it to the mains did not trigger the initial relay switch.  The first step was to check the fuse and check that it is fine. In this case it was found that the fuse was ok.

Removed fuse holder with extra fuse

So the second step was to open the UPS from its 4 screws as can be seen in the diagram below.

Once opened the UPS did not show any initial burnt components and on second inspection the relays and all other major powering components looks in good shape.

Checked the Fuse for connectivity

With a multi meter I check that power was being supplied on the board and in fact it did power the board. Pay extra attention here when the UPS is powered up in this open state.

At this point I needed some more info so I went to the net and got to know the support page for this UPS being http://www.metapo.com

Here I found out that in normal circumstances the UPS might not switch on if the battery is totally dead.

Fenton mains power connector checked.

For this reason I removed the battery and charged it with a different charger of the same power specifications. At this point the battery did charge but I needed to check whether it kept the charge.

After a day or two the battery did keep the charge so I loaded the battery to check its stability and in fact it did keep a stable output. So this shows that the battery was in fact ok.

At this point it clearly shows that there is something with the board of the UPS.

I checked the primary rectifier found on the board and the results taken looked very suspicious.

The rectifier was removed and changed with the same type of values.

Voila UPS powered up.
